son of a . . .

decisions, decisions. . .

Today, I spent a nice afternoon at my friendly, neighborhood gun range.

BULLET TRAP

After endlessly pondering though the glass (almost as fun as ogling at cupcakes in the bakery), my first choice was this little honey.
Taurus 85 38 Special P+P 3″ Ultra Light
Funnily enough, my aim was a bit better pulling the full trigger instead of cocking the hammer for the easy pull. I wonder if that’s because my frame was more locked and braced for the recoil. Perhaps.
Anyway. I loved it.
kiss-kiss, bang-bang

Second up: This was the “gun of the week” or whatever, so their was no rental fee. Gimme.
Ruger LCR 38
I’m pretty crazy in love with the hammer-less model. In theory. But again, I like having the option of going double action or single on the trigger.
This little gun had a killer recoil so my hand got a bit beat up, but it was sure dreamy to shoot.
Until. . . .
Smith & Wesson M60 38 Special
I mean, really. Is there anything better than a S&W 38 chrome? It weighs a bit more than the others, but there was hardly any recoil and the double action trigger was super easy. (So easy, in fact, that the first time I shot it, I didn’t even mean to pull the trigger. oopsie. hee-hee)

The S&W is my favorite revolver so far. Now, the hunt begins.
kill zone. dead. good-night.
PS: As I was gearing up (putting on my “eyes and ears”), another shooter and I started chatting. He ended up in the lane next to me and offered to let me shoot two of his guns. First was a lovely semi-automatic number. Loved it. Strong and loud and smooth. Second was a light and slim 22. Wow. It felt like a toy gun. The dude showed me my holes on his target from the 22–they were all in the red center, teeny-tiny holes. (Just sayin’.)
Semis are way fun to shoot, but for now, I’m after that revolver.

more in that big bag

#11 – Retry 10 foods I always thought I hated.

So far, I’ve tackled mushrooms, bananas, chicken-fried steak, coconut and now. . . re-fried beans.

This is one of the many munchy-munches available at my brother’s house this past weekend. I’m pretty sure it’s called a seven-layer bean dip. . .or some something.
My lovely and talented niece slaved for hours expertly spreading layer upon layer of beans, sour cream, cheese and. . .well, frankly I have no idea what else was in it. All I knew was. . . here is a food that I never, ever eat.
Alrighty then.
Giddy up!
Isn’t she cute?

This is the plate I bravely prepared.
Only one scoop. You know, just in case. (Please note the Sonic cup close by. As a chaser. Again, just in case.)
And here’s what was left.
Not bad. Not bad at all. Maybe it was the thought of lovely niece’s trustworthy hands preparing it, or maybe that it smelled nothing like Taco Bell.

No, I didn’t go back for seconds. Yes, I did finish those last two chips. With queso, maybe.
Mission: accomplished.

So, according to my calculations, #11 is now 2/5’s in the bag.

#25 is in the bag
Gorgeous, no?
And speaking of gorgeous. . . . .
Sorry, Brad. You’re going to a better place. I’m sure even Angelia will approve.

a new year

h a p p y !

(via: kate spade)
2011 was a good year. Even great, sometimes. Although, sometimes it kind of sucked, too.
I’m sure you know how that goes. . .
In the past year, I fought hard for changes and improvements and even did some things I swore I never would.
Some minor example are:
downloaded a Lady Gaga song,
eased way up on always using proper punctuation and never using shortcut spelling in text messages,
trusted someone I knew I shouldn’t trust and it turned out okay,
trusting another someone and it kind of blew up in my face,
added The Rolling Stones to my iPod

There’s lots more, but the frivolous is all I’m sharing online for now. (here’s why)
Seriously though, if I can add Lady Gaga to my workout playlist, I’m pretty sure I can do anything.

Here’s looking forward to an amazing 2012.
See you there. . .
Cheers!

"board" out of my mind

More fun with home improvement
(#4)

* * *New Headboard* * *
After sifting through a few dozen DIY blogs and websites, I decided to tackle this project today. In theory, it seemed simple enough. Which doesn’t always translate to being simple-for-Mary, however. Nonetheless, I pulled out my tape measure, made the necessary notes and headed out.
I spent $19 at Home Depot – plywood (60×40), two pieces of wood for potential “legs” (25″ 1×6), and pack of 1/4″ staples for heavy-duty staple gun.

Home, after cute Spanish-speaking guys at Home Depot lashed plywood to the roof of my car. It was only a 1.5-mile drive, but it somehow took me ten minutes.
Safety first, yeah?
After unloading the HD loot, I headed to JoAnn’s, where I spent $13 – two yards of fabric and one bag-thingy of batting.
32 bones. Not bad.

Once I ironed out the major wrinkles, the whole thing took me less than an hour. Seriously, easy-peasy, right? And if I can do it……

The fabric isn’t exactly what I was after, but my choices were limited because I needed it 48″wide–which is not standard. But the beauty of this DIY is, whenever it strikes my fancy, I can always recover.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this pattern matches exactly with the rug in the room next door. I’m not much for the matchy-matchy look, so I’ll probably change the fabric sooner than later.
Don’t worry. After I took this picture, I made it more even. I should take a new picture, because this one is probably going to bug me for the rest of my blogging life.
Oh well…. I’m off to sleep under the rainbow, snuggled up in my shirt blank. Bliss.zzzz…….
