X is for Xavier Roberts

Can you tell that we’re nearing the end of the A – Z challenge and I’m running out of steam?

X.R. “invented” these creepy little things.

Only because I trust every last one of you am I sharing this picture.
Of me.
Circa 1983.
With my CPK, Bud Archibald.

Now, have a laugh and go in peace. . . .

I blame the A-Z Challenge for my very, (okay, VERY) bad hair.

Oh, I remember the day my cabbage patch kid arrived. Her name was Charity and I was so happy when she showed up. She'd been backordered for quite a while.

  2. KW says:

Let's face it–you had a lot working against you. 1)The decade. 2)Your age. 3)The braces. But you seem to be wearing them all proudly, and you're rockin' that color coordination bit!

  3. Kerri says:

OMGosh, why did you take a picture with your cabbage patch kid, so awesome! you have to send that in to Ellen, you'd make it on the show for sure!!! LOVE it!

My mom took us to the one store in town that was selling them. We had to wait in line outside for the store to open, then it was a mad rush, complete with pushing and elbows. (Just like when I was after an Edward Cullen action figure!)

  5. Ophelia London says:

If I recall correctly, at the clothing store my parents owned back then, there was a photographer taking senior portraits one Saturday morning, so I told my mother I wanted one of me and my kid. She should have stopped me. Or at least combed my hair.

  6. Jocelyn Rish says:

I'm with you on running out of steam at this point. I'm so ready for May 1st! Love the picture – I think my CPK is in the top of one of my closets. Wonder if she's worth anything? 🙂

  7. Ophelia London says:

No kidding. It was kind of fun the first week, but I'm so ready for May!

I think my kid is at my mother's house somewhere. Probably with no head and chewed up by the dog.

I had to laugh when I saw this. I was in kindergarden when I got my first Cabbage Patch doll, Irving Cole. My mother told me later that it was mess just getting one for me. But the funny thing is, I didn't even know at the time what they were. I went on to get two more, Monica Lana and Katinka Kara.

  9. Elizabeth says:

How funny, I always thought those dolls were rather creepy looking as well.
Hey, don't apologize for that hair. You are blessed with such thick, wavy, beautiful stuff and kids don't need to worry about bad hair days, right?

  10. Ophelia London says:

I've never liked dolls; always found them creepy. With the CPK, I think I was trying to fit in and be “motherly.” Never quite caught on, however.

And yes, when I'm complaining about my hair, I can always feel good that I'll probably never be bald!

    Thanks for the comment!!
